‎2011 Hurricane Predictions are out. This year forecasters are predicting 16 named storms. Nine of those storms are expected to turn into hurricanes, five of them major.

In 2010 the prediction was 23 Named Storms with an estimated eight to 14 storms predicted to strengthen into hurricanes. Of those storms, three to seven were anticipated to become major hurricanes.  According to NOAA National Hurricane Center, there were 19 Atlantic Storms.  Of the 19 storms 7 where tropical storms, 7 were hurricanes, and 5 were major hurricanes.  Luckily only two storms impacted the US: Bonnie made landfall on southern Florida in late July and Hermine grazed Southern Texas in early September.  According to a Reuter's article, Colorado State University forecasters say they don't think we will be that lucky this year.  The CSU team predicted a "72 percent chance that at least one major hurricane will make landfall on the U.S. coastline in 2011."
